AMBER Study Calgary Recruitment

In Calgary, participants are recruited through a variety of ways. Primarily, participants are recruited through their involvement with the Alberta Cancer Research Biorepository (ACRB) and their willingness to be contacted for additional research. Alternatively, participants may join the study by contacting the Calgary study coordinator at 403-698-8067.

Calgary Recruitment through the ACRB:
Prior to joining the AMBER Study, participants will provide biological samples through the ACRB. This organization stores these samples for use in future research. The AMBER Study is considered one of these "future research studies". Hence, when completing the ACRB Consent Form, it is important that you specify your willingness to be contacted for future research if you are interested in participating in the AMBER Study.

Alberta Cancer Research Biorepository (ACRB)

AIM: to collect biological samples and make them available to researchers. Research is focused on advancing our understanding and treatment of cancer and other disease.
To participate, you will be asked to:
  1. Provide consent for the storage and research use of a small sample of breast tissue (this sample is normally collected during your surgery).
  2. Provide a small blood sample (30mL or 2 tablespoons).
  3. You will be asked if you willing to be contacted regarding future research; if you select "yes" you may be eligible to help with future research studies. If you select "no", we still greatly value your sample donations and thank you for your contribution to breast cancer research.
For more information on the Alberta Cancer Research Biobank, call 403-521-3249 or visit their website at www.acrb.ca.

If eligibility criteria are met, the AMBER Study Coordinator will contact potential participants to go over the study in more detail and answer any questions. Following this conversation, additional study material will be sent to the participant and all health related assessments will be scheduled. After the two day assessments are complete, along with the questionnaires and accelerometer readings, the baseline requirements of the study will have been met.
Participants will be contacted by study staff again at one, three, and five years after baseline to complete follow-up assessments.
